Subject: Singapore Court of Appeal on Contributory Negligence in Using a Pedestrian Crossing

Dear all,

You may be interested in a recent case of the Singapore Court of Appeal which has ruled by a majority that (in a very simplified summary) a pedestrian who is run down by a motor vehicle may be contributorily negligent even in circumstances where the pedestrian is in the process of crossing the road at a controlled crossing with the lights in his favour.

The case is Asnah bte Ab Rahman v Li Jianlin [2016] SGCA 16 (link to the case here).
